Mysore/Mysuru: K.R. Nagar JD(S) MLA
S.R. Mahesh said that the JD(S) was willing to accept NR Congress MLA Tanveer Sait into the party fold, if the Congress party takes disciplinary action against him in connection with Mysuru Mayoral polls.
Addressing a press meet at his Office near Rama Vilas Road here yesterday, Mahesh said that Congress Corporators supported the JD(S) candidate at the last minute in order to keep out the BJP from power in the civic body. Observing that it was not correct to target Tanveer Sait for having supported the JD(S), he said that Sait had done no wrong as the KPCC Chief himself had told Sait to continue the alliance with JD(S) in the MCC.
Present position is neutral, says S.R. Mahesh
The JD(S), which has shared power with both BJP and Congress in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), is playing its cards to its chest ahead of the impending Mayoral polls.
Though the tenure of Mayor Tasneem from the JD(S) and Deputy Mayor C. Sridhar from the Congress ended earlier this month, the next Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected only after the State government makes an announcement on the reservation for the two posts.
The JD(S), which shared power with the BJP in the previous Council, has tied up with the Congress in the present Council, which is also hung. But, the relationship between the JD(S) and Congress has soured at the State level after the collapse of the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led coalition government.

Party not in favour of continuing alliance with Cong. or joining hands with BJP
The Janata Dal (Secular) members in the hung Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) are reportedly preferring to sit in the Opposition instead of aligning with the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party.
At a meeting held here on Sunday ahead of the Mayoral polls, JD(S) members and former Mayors favoured the party maintaining equidistance with the Congress and the BJP.
“Even if we don’t have power, it is alright. Let us sit in the Opposition,” said former Minister S.R. Mahesh while seeking to express the opinion of the JD(S) councillors and former Mayors attending the meeting. The JD(S) has 18 members in the 65-member MCC. The BJP has 22 while the Congress has 19, besides five Independents and one BSP member.
