1.3% Jacksonville tax levy increase to cover pensions

The city of Jacksonville approved a tax levy increase of 1.3% by 8-2 during Monday’s city council meeting to fund the police and fire pensions, among other items.
Aldermen Steve Warmowski and Brandon Adams both voted no for the tax increase.
“They increased the total level,” Adams said. “This is the wrong time to raise taxes,” he said of people dealing with financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
