City of Tower cancels Saturday night fireworks display

The City of Tower announced it has canceled its Saturday night fireworks display due to extremely dry conditions.
According to a Facebook post from Mayor Orlyn Kringstad, officials made the decision based on the recommendation of the fireworks display operator, the Tower Fire Chief, and Tower City leadership.
Kringstad says plans had been made to wet down the launch area every two hours prior to 10:00 p.m. and continue to do so following the fireworks display, but he says those precautions are not working because of the ongoing drought/dryness.
This was not an easy decision to make, but the safety of our citizens and firefighters who could be at risk, must come first, Kringstad said. ....

TOWER, Minn.- “Extremely dry conditions” have forced the City of Tower, Minnesota to cancel their fireworks display for Saturday evening.
According to a post on the City’s Facebook Page, “this decision was made on the recommendation of the fireworks display operator, the Tower Fire Chief, and Tower City leadership.”
According to Mayor Orlyn Kringstad, plans had been made to wet down the launch area every couple hours prior to the 10 p.m. show time and continue that afterwards, but because of the ongoing drought those precautions weren’t working. ....

TOWER Residents here will likely be reliant on the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office for emergency law enforcement response for the foreseeable future, as officials in both Breitung Township and the city of Tower appear reluctant to re-establish a local police department in the wake of the resignation of former chief Dan Nylund.
Last week, Breitung supervisors said liability and expense were two key factors behind their preference to hand over local law enforcement responsibility to either St. Louis County or the city of Tower.
