Reporter: ); ); A local council will tonight hear a motion that seeks to have the Union flag flown on council and civic buildings all year round. The proposal, brought by Cllr Aaron Callan of the DUP, seconded by the UUP s Richard Holmes and supported by Alderman Alan Robinson (DUP), Cllr Russell Watton (PUP) and Independent Cllr McCandless, would see the Union flag flown on the buildings for 365 days a year. ....
Mayor stumps up after councillors clash over £300 donation Some councillors disagreed with the contribution. Reporter: ); ); A local mayor has had to dip into his charitable fund after councillors were unable to find consensus on a request for a £300 charitable donation at Tuesday night s council meeting. Some councillors on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council objected to a Department for Communities (DfC) request for a donation to help distribute aid for Syrian refugees. In correspondence, DfC said they were keen to ensure the charity, the Kiltonga Christian Centre Storehouse in County Down, was not left out of pocket. “As your council has VPRS (Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme) families I am seeking your agreement to pay a voluntary donation of £300 per annum,” they said. ....
