Mar. 9 Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer is on track to earn nearly $420,000 this year by simultaneously collecting his retirement benefits from his nearly 40 years working for the Fresno Police Department in addition to his mayor s salary.
Dyer receives over $24,000 a month in retirement benefits. He retired as police chief in 2019 after 18 years as chief and working for Fresno Police Department in various positions since 1980.
His retirement pay is based on his years of service and his final average salary, which was $229,937, according to Transparent California. He earns more in retirement now than he did while working as police chief. ....

Jan. 2 The new year in Fresno brings with it a couple of elected officials who will take office, including one very familiar face and one new one.
Fresno’s longtime Police Chief Jerry Dyer officially takes over the mayor’s office on Jan. 5, as Fresno City Council newcomer Tyler Maxwell also becomes District 4’s representative.
The swearing-in ceremonies are planned for Jan. 7, the first City Council meeting of 2021.
Both won their races outright in March and have waited for the new year to assume the positions. The vote counts were settled about the same time the coronavirus pandemic was closing down major events, and days before the city would see its first stay-at-home order. ....

Spokane Indians receive invitation to become High-A affiliate of Colorado Rockies


Wednesday was a big day across minor league baseball, as franchises across the country received their formal invitations from Major League Baseball to continue to participate as an affiliate in the reorganization of Minor League Baseball.
Twenty-nine of the 30 MLB teams made their invitations public during the day. The only one that didn’t was the Colorado Rockies, who were still deep in negotiation with one of their potential affiliates.
Now that’s been settled.
On Thursday, the Rockies extended invitations to their four potential affiliates, among them the Spokane Indians, who were offered a spot to play next season and beyond as a full-season (132 games) Class A-Advanced affiliate in a six-team Northwest League. ....
