Senior Center, local organizations get boost from federal grant money Advertisement ST. CLAIR SHORES Organizations that help local seniors, children, the homeless and more will benefit from money allocated to different public service organizations through the Community Development Block Grant program administered by St. Clair Shores. Fulfilling requests from nine different public service organizations, along with paying for eligible operations at the St. Clair Shores Senior Activity Center, repavement and repair of eligible streets and repayment of the loan to renovate and expand the senior center, City Council members voted to approve the 2021 annual action plan and budget for the Community Development Block Grant Program at its April 19 meeting. ....

CLAIR SHORES Whether it’s working remotely, livestreaming the Detroit Tigers game or starting up Spotify for some boat tunes, Wi-Fi is something boaters turn to more and more these days. The system at Lac Sainte Clair Harbor, however, was first installed in 2012 and, even before it failed, the slow speeds left boaters and visitors to the park and City Hall wanting more. ....

CLAIR SHORES As restaurants continue to be subject to shutdowns of in-person dining, they’re adapting with changes to better serve their customers, now and in the future. Dozens of restaurants took advantage of a streamlined permitting process for temporary patios this summer, and now at least two local spots have been granted approval to make them a permanent fixture. Detroit’s Finest Coney Island, 25801 Jefferson Ave., constructed an outdoor patio area in response to the COVID-19 pandemic this summer, when the city allowed any bar or restaurant to do so on a temporary basis as a way to accommodate customers during the pandemic. But owner Gjelosh Marjakaj came before City Council Nov. 16 to make the 1,450-square foot patio permanently available for customers. ....
