Ms McGrath will be MC for the charity fundraising night on July 31 at Sofitel Noosa Resort.
“Domestic and family violence is a huge problem Australia-wide and unfortunately the Sunshine Coast is not immune,” Ms Stewart said.
“Police advised me recently that they’ve seen an increase of over 40 per cent in domestic violence issues in the past 12–18 months in our region alone.”

Residents have a further two weeks to have their say on plans aimed at cracking down on short-stay holiday homes and units in Noosa.
Noosa Council extended consultation on the draft local law until May 28 because of the importance of the proposed new rules.
It proposes new rules for property owners including that they apply for annual registration, keep a record of complaints and have a manager who lives within 20 minutes of the home or unit.
Industry members labelled the proposal as “draconian” and said it risked leading to homeowners pulling out of the short stay letting pool entirely – leaving tourists with fewer accommodation options. ....

CEO brings curtain down on distinguished career

Long serving Noosa Council CEO Brett de Chastel is to retire early next year.
Mr de Chastel, who will be 60 next year, brings the curtain down on a distinguished local government career on February 2, 2022.
“It has been an enormous honour to work at Noosa Council and this decision wasn’t taken lightly,” he said.
Mr de Chastel first joined Council in 2001 as its Director of Corporate Services and became the CEO at the beginning of 2014.
In his eight years in the top job, Mr de Chastel helped steer the organisation though de-amalgamation and his guidance and leadership proved invaluable in delivering a string of balanced budgets, while keeping debt at low levels. ....

A fund manager who campaigned against Labor s franking credits in 2018 has joined a grassroots fight against Noosa Council s climate strategy.
ASX-listed Wilson Asset management chairman Geoff Wilson worries the values and insurance costs of his and other Sunshine Beach properties will be hit under proposals in the Coastal Hazard Adaptation Plan.
Noosa is one of 32 councils in Queensland developing an adaptation plan to propose ways to mitigate damages from climate change as part of the state s QCoast 2100 program.
Mr Wilson said the proposal lacked detail and was based on worst-case scenario mapping.
Along with an increasing number of locals I am concerned the council has pre-empted its proposed plans with costly and harmful planning restrictions on people s homes while doing nothing to help the local environment, Mr Wilson said. ....
