Mavenir is deploying an open RAN network for Vodafone Idea utilizing millimeter wave spectrum. The pilot deployment is in the advanced commercial phase. Mavenir and Red Hat are providing a complete, end-to-end cloud-native open RAN system for Vodafone Idea s pilot deployment.
Mavenir commenced the deployment in September last year and the network is now being used for live commercial traffic. A large-scale deployment is expected to start in the coming months, though the companies did not provide any timeline for it.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has criticized Vodafone Idea (Vi) for failing to secure funding from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) for the deployment of Open-RAN and related technologies. Vi had previously assured the DoT that it would secure this funding four months ago. The government is the biggest shareholder in the cash-strapped carrier.
