the scene of the crime. ashley guindon, a prince william police officer and crystal hamilton, a young woodbridge mother. this weekend, hamilton was shot and killed in what was described as a domestic dispute with her husband. guindon was the responding officer. it was her first day on the job. my heart is broken. my pain is beyond measure. reporter: hamilton s sister, wendy howard, told her that and her husband were having problems. i would have never imagined it would have led to this. reporter: two lives cut short. dozens of people lined the streets of woodbridge. just to pay respects for somebody in the line of duty, trying to do the right thing. it s emotional. it is. it hits close to home. i just came out here to pay my respects to somebody who has more courage than me. officer and want to say thank you. reporter: to hear others describe them, they could have been friends. they were in many ways alike. hamilton worked with wounded warriors, helping vets
