A local councillor has welcomed funding for the Cootes Lane area of the city which includes the reinstatement of a footbridge ove the River Bregagh.
This is a fantastic project for those of us who enjoy walking, cycling and our natural and built heritage enthuses Maria. The project will include the reinstatement of a foot bridge over the Bregagh River or the Beodic as it is known locally, said Cllr Dollard.
This investment in Cootes Lane follows on from the significant involvement of Keep Kilkenny Beautiful and will see Cootes Lane become a heritage outdoor amenity area and outdoor classroom for the children in the nearby schools. ....

Apr. 1 TRAVERSE CITY Maura Brennan s interest in clean energy and power conservation could serve her well on the Traverse City Light and Power board as the utility works on its own goals for both.
She ll start a five-year term on April 5 after City commissioners unanimously agreed to appoint her at a recent meeting. The seasoned attorney will fill the spot Pat McGuire leaves after he opted not to seek reappointment.
Brennan acknowledged she has no energy sector experience, having learned what she knows from her climate change activism, she said she founded and co-chairs the Grand Traverse Area Citizens Climate Lobby, according to her letter of interest, and said she formerly penned a blog on sustainability. ....

PITTSFIELD â To Maura Brennan, the countryâs âsilver tsunamiâ is a good thing.
As a geriatrician at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Brennan works with the elderly on a daily basis. In Brennanâs personal life, her elderly mother lived long enough to celebrate at her daughterâs wedding.
âShe still had an enormous amount to contribute at that time,â Brennan said. âThatâs a success, that we have increasing numbers of people, frequently in good health, surviving to advanced ages.â
The question, Brennan says, is how to care for the growing number of older Americans. While the U.S. elderly population is expected to swell by tens of millions in the next few decades, projections show that the number of geriatricians will increase only modestly, creating a massive deficit in high-quality elder care. ....
