A citizens commission has consolidated 135 ideas on how to refine county governance into 40 Maui County Charter amendment proposals. Now it wants the public's help to finalize the list for voters.
The Maui Police Department has launched its new Multi-Cultural Advisory Counsel or MMAC. This collaborative group is comprised of various community members representing diverse groups within the community alongside MPD personnel.
A new Maui law that makes the host of a gathering liable for illegal underage drinking may be changed or even repealed due to concerns over enforcement and appeals.
In addressing the department directly, Chief Pelletier thanked members for their service saying, “Please know this: I will do everything in my power each and every day to make sure you have everything you need, that you are safe, (and) that you are protected. I will make sure I am your voice when you need it. I will hold you when you need it. I will be there to comfort, to guide you, to protect you, to help you. I will never ever ask you to do anything I will not do myself. I will go to the gates of hell and kick the devil in the teeth with you. God bless you for all that you do.”
