The Douglas Munro, the last of the high-endurance U.S. Coast Guard cutters, was decommissioned in Kodiak on Saturday, an event that attracted high-level Coast Guard officials and state legislators to the island.  Among the attendees were Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Karl Schultz; Vice Adm. Linda Fagan, commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area; and Rear Adm. Nathan A. Moore, commander of District 17. Representatives from the U.S. and state legislatures were also present, including U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK), and speaker of the state house Rep. Rear Admiral Matthew T. Bell, Junior Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Command of the 17th Coast Guard District changed hands during a ceremony in Juneau Friday morning. Rear Adm. Matthew T. Bell Jr. transferred command to Rear Adm. Nathan A. Moore. Moore was previously assigned as the Coast Guard assistant commandant for engineering and logistics. As the Coast Guard’s chief engineer, he was responsible for all naval, aeronautical, civil, and industrial engineering and logistics for the service’s 23,000 facilities, 230 ships, 1,800 boats, and 200 aircraft. He was responsible for executing an annual budget of $1 billion, and leading 5,000 personnel assigned to Coast Guard Headquarters. ....
