Team Alamat UP
The team won the Tracking and Reducing CO2 Emissions from Vehicles Challenge for their mobile application CERO, which helps motorists reduce their fuel consumption by up to 15%, allowing them to both save on fuel costs and reduce their carbon dioxide emissions.
Hailing from a variety of different fields, including chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and business administration, Team Alamat UP’s big win was brought home by members Matthew Solomon Arjonillo; Esther Pauline Bacay; John Cagape; Paolo Ricco Gauma; Althea Patricia Laza; FuLin Li; Aleandro Sta. Ana; Jan Goran Tomacruz; and Marc Adrian Yu.
Pitch The Future is a recent integration into the Shell Eco-marathon (SEM) program, one of the world’s leading student engineering competitions that requires teams from across the globe to compete in a series of contests in solving real-world energy challenges. It is only the first in a series of student initiatives in the new Virtual League of SEM.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 14) A team from the University of the Philippines has emerged as global winner in a competition designed to help create a low carbon future, beating 84 other contenders from across the world.
Alamat UP, a university-wide team of students, was named champion last Thursday in Shell s Eco-Marathon Pitch the Future challenge, marking the first time a Philippine team won in the contest s 35-year history.
This came after the group hurdled and claimed the top spot at the Asia/Middle East regional stage last month under the category tracking and reducing CO2 emissions .
