Punch Newspapers Sections State governments, except Lagos and Oyo, are not making independent plans to procure COVID-19 vaccine, officials told The PUNCH on Sunday. Officials of states including Plateau, Delta, Ekiti, Gombe, Cross River and Bauchi, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, said they had not made any plan to buy the vaccine, rather they would depend on allocations from the Federal Government. But Lagos and Oyo states, had two weeks ago, told our correspondents that they were making independent plans to buy doses of COVID-19 vaccine, in addition to the allocations expected from the Federal Government. As most states failed to make their own plans for the vaccine, the Federal Government on Sunday blamed politics and logistics due to no fault of Nigeria for the delay in the arrival of the vaccine in country. ....
Punch Newspapers Sections Matthew Ochei, Asaba Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress across the three senatorial districts in Delta State, have warned the state Caretaker Committee Chairman, Jones Erue, to steer clear of the planned inauguration of Wards/Local Government Areas Caretaker Committees. The leaders and stakeholders stressed that it is the constitutional function of senatorial chairmen to inaugurate such committees. They accused the state chairman of “fanning the embers of disunity in the party, across the state, particularly in Delta North.” Their lawyer, I. M. Punch Newspapers Sections Matthew Ochei Delta State has yet to get over last Friday’s gas explosion in which many died and several sustained varying degrees of injury in Agbor in the Ika South Local Government Area of the state. Buildings, vehicles, motorcycles and other valuable items in the area were destroyed by the fire. The explosion which started around 5pm was said to have lasted for three hours before the arrival of men of the state fire service. Monday Osadume who lost four persons, Victor Uruakpo whose two children and mother died in the incident including many others are still mourning their dead and loss. ....
Punch Newspapers Sections Godwin Isenyo At least 24 persons were killed in a gas explosion, road crash and a bandit attack in Delta, Ondo and Kaduna states respectively. Ten persons reportedly died on Friday night in Agbor, the headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State after a gas plant went up in flames, destroying several buildings, vehicles and leaving many persons with serious injuries. Eyewitnesses told Sunday PUNCH that a gas tanker had arrived at the Osadebe Gas Plant along the expressway around 6pm. One of them, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said instead of waiting for hours to allow the vehicle and the content to cool off, they started discharging it immediately. ....
