The wheat begins to change color from green to a blueish-green tint before it completely dies off. The lack of precipitation this spring has caused many wheat farmers across the region angst as to how their yields will come in later this summer.

The flag leaf on the left has lost much of its green color because of lack of water while the flag leaf on the right is from a healthy stock. Both leaves were picked from the same field about 10 yards apart. The flag leaf carries about 80 percent of the nutrients for wheat plants.
