Coffee shop with new owners among changes to Burlington coffee scene


A venerable Burlington coffee shop returns under new ownership this week after shutting down last fall as COVID-19 cases continued to rise.
Muddy Waters, a staple at 184 Main St. for more than a quarter-century, reopens at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Tierney Munger, who has worked at the coffee shop for about a decade. She and two partners who own the nearby business Manhattan Pizza and Pub, Sam Tolstoi and Matt Small, bought Muddy Waters from longtime owner Mark Mackillop. The sale was first reported by Seven Days.
Munger told the Burlington Free Press on Monday morning that she was “Mark’s right-hand person” at Muddy Waters. “I’ve been there for so long that I’ve just gotten really comfortable with our regulars and formed relationships with them,” she said. ....

Pentagon officer charged in 2 fatal shootings held without bond

There will be no bond for the off-duty Pentagon police officer charged in the fatal shootings of two men in Takoma Park, Maryland.
Montgomery County District Judge Eric Nee ordered David Hall Dixon of Takoma Park to remain behind bars. The 40-year-old is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of using a handgun in commission of a felony, and reckless endangerment in the deaths of Dominique Williams, 32, of Hyattsville and James Lionel Johnson, 38, of District Heights.
The shootings happened in the parking lot of the Takoma Overlook Condominiums on the 7300 block of New Hampshire Avenue last week. ....
