More than half of mail-in ballots now need hand counting due to vendor's latest error, delay in results expected


An error by the county s mail-in ballot vendor now means more than half of all mail-in ballots will have to be hand-counted, causing significant delay in final results.
Michigan Elections Resources printed multi-sheet ballots in the wrong order, affecting approximately 14,000 ballots, a press release from the Lancaster County Board of Elections said.
Those ballots are now unable to be scanned by the county s ballot scanners and will have to be hand counted.
Roughly 27,000 mail-in ballots were applied for and as of Tuesday nearly 18,000 had been returned.
We ll be starting the hand count at the end of the week, weekend, we re fleshing that out at the moment, Christa Miller, chief clerk of the board of elections, said. She anticipates the hand county will take three to four days to complete, and final results will be available by early next week. ....

Up to 100 voters in Marietta, Mount Joy areas receive incorrect return envelopes due to vendor error


Fewer than 100 mail voters in two ZIP codes in the Marietta and Mount Joy areas received return envelopes intended for other people due to a vendor error, county officials announced Friday.
The Lancaster County Board of Elections became aware of the vendor error Thursday, after voters in ZIP codes 17552 and 17547 began receiving their ballots Thursday, said Christa Miller, the county’s chief registrar. Voters who applied to vote by mail in these ZIP codes will likely continue to receive ballots that may have errors on Friday, Miller added.
While the mail-ballot packet will be addressed to the voter, the envelope used to return the ballot in the mail may have a different voter’s name on it, meaning a voter who uses it could be voting on behalf of someone else. ....

2,700 Lancaster County voters receive wrong instructions for mail-in ballots


Twenty-seven hundred Lancaster County voters who requested mail-in ballots for the May 18 primary election received a ballot packet that incorrectly informed them that they did not need to add postage to the return envelope. 
The Lancaster County Board of Elections became aware of the error on Saturday, said Christa Miller, the board’s chief registrar. Unlike in the November 2020 election, Lancaster County voters are required to pay the postage to return their ballots in the mail. 
Voters can avoid paying postage by placing their ballot in the drop box located in the Chestnut Street entrance to the county building at 150 N. Queen St. in Lancaster city.  ....
