I am 12 years old, a sixth grader at Marion Cross Elementary School, and an out lesbian to my family, friends and the students in my grade. Recently I was outside Dan & Whit’s with my brother, buying ice cream. In front of us in line were two people from my school. They were having a normal conversation, until one noticed me, turned around to his friends, and loudly announced literally announced “Lesbo!” For those who don’t know, “lesbo” is an offensive and derogatory term for lesbians. ....

Chiles High student declared brain dead in crash on North Meridian Road


A 15-year-old Chiles High School student who was severely injured Monday in a crash on North Meridian Road is not expected to survive, according to her godparents.
Makayla Campa was a passenger in an SUV that went off the road around 4 a.m. Monday and crashed into trees. Another passenger, Caden Staats, 14, who also attended Chiles, was killed in the crash. The driver, who has not been identified, suffered minor injuries.
Makayla s godparents, Amanda and Matt Osborn, issued a statement thanking the community for all the love and support that it has received since the crash. The family s statement was published by local television stations. ....

Chiles High School student declared brain dead following Monday s crash

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Chiles High School student in critical condition following the fatal crash on North Meridian Road Monday morning is no longer showing brain activity, according to the girl’s godmother, Amanda Osborn.
Osborn says doctors declared 15-year-old Makayla Campa brain dead around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The family has kept her on life support so she can be an organ donor, “so her spirit and love can live on in the life of others,” according to a statement.
The Campa family says they appreciate the outpouring of support and prayer the Tallahassee and Chiles communities have shown them this week, releasing the following statement: ....
