When McCade Brown came off the board in the third round with the 79th overall pick Monday, he became the highest Indiana pitcher taken in the MLB Draft since Matt Bashore (No. 46) and Eric Arnett (No. 26) both got picked in the first round in 2009.
And as it turned out, Brown was just the first of four Hoosiers to be selected on Day 2 of the annual event.
Right-handers Gabe Bierman and Matt Litwicki along with lefty Tommy Sommer were also selected by big league clubs on Monday, marking the 13th time in the past 14 drafts that IU has had multiple players selected. Bierman went to the Miami Marlins in the seventh round, while Litwicki (Boston Red Sox) and Sommer (Chicago White Sox) were both 10th round choices.
Indiana right-handed pitcher Matt Litwicki was drafted in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball draft on Monday with the 286th overall pick.
Litwicki missed the entire 2018 season after Tommy John surgery and pitched limited innings out of the bullpen throughout his career. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he posted a 0.90 ERA and six strikeouts in 10 innings. This season, he posted four saves and 17 strikeouts in 10 innings, but posted a 4.50 ERA.

Though it, at times, seemed like things would go sideways for the Hoosiers over the weekend, they managed to take a big series win over fourth-place Iowa in Bloomington. The Hawkeyes took the opening game, 6-5, with the help of three errors from the Hoosiers in the field and six walks by Hoosier pitchers. From there, IU smoked Iowa, 12-6, on Saturday and then pulled away late on Sunday to win 12-8.

With last-place Minnesota in town, Indiana needed a three-game sweep for positioning, for pride, for a lot of reasons.
After three convincing finishes at Bart Kaufman Field, a weekend sweep of the Golden Gophers is exactly what the Hoosiers got. IU took the series with a 9-3 win in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader, a 7-1 victory in Game 2, and a no-doubt-about-it, 23-1 triumph in the finale.
