Post-poll violence: Protests in Bengal, killings in BJP-run Uttar Pradesh

Violence has erupted across Uttar Pradesh following the announcement of the panchayat poll results, killing at least five people since Tuesday, while BJP leaders are sitting in dharna in every district against the post-Assembly-poll violence in Bengal. The rural poll results, announced from Monday to Wednesday, show the Samajwadi Party outperforming the ruling BJP as it had done in 2016. Fingers have been raised against both parties for the violence. BJP leaders and workers, including state unit chief Swatantra Dev Singh, have sat on dharnas for a few hours in front of their homes complying with the Covid protocol on Wednesday and Thursday in protest against the violence in Bengal after Trinamul’s Assembly election victory.

104 people fined for breaching Covid-19 safety rules in Habiganj 128 HABIGANJ, April 5, 2021 (BSS) – Mobile courts of the district administration fined 104 people including hotel traders and transports Taka 65,050 in different places in the district town for breaching Covid-19 safety rules to halt the spread of the lethal virus. According to district administration sources, four teams conducted the raids in different areas of the district town and fined 14 people Taka 9,600. Executive Magistrates Shah Zahurul Hossain, Amena Khatun, Syed Mohammad Ibrahim and Samsuddin Mohammad Reza led the operation this morning to this afternoon. In Madhabpur upazila of the district, on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fatema Tuj-Zohra fined seven public transports Taka 21,000 and Assistant Commissioner of Land Mohiuddin fined 9 public transports Taka 11,000.
