Mental health professionals discuss the return to normalcy

MARYLAND – As we head slowly to the next phase of the pandemic of returning to normal daily life, mental health professionals we spoke with claim, some of their patients are struggling with anxiety as they return to some sense of normalcy.
According to mental health professionals in the area, many patients became accustomed to being isolated, working from home, wearing masks and social distancing. Now as more people get vaccines and restrictions are lifted, some say they’re nervous about returning to normal, or a new normal in some cases.
Some say, life won’t exactly be the same but it’s another major shift for people and even those who may not be struggling with mental health. They tell 47 ABC, people should take their time with this transition. Doing things like still wearing a mask in public, washing your hands more, or staying home if they’re uncomfortable is normal. ....

Today’s New Start Learning Center has opened its doors and is fulfilling its mission to provide an educational and loving environment for children. “We also want to be a resource for families and are reaching out to the community,” according to Erica Freelove, the director of the new child care center at 116 Walnut St. in Waynesboro.
“Every day is a new opportunity. New Start will not just be a day care center, but a home away from home,” said Jaye Ancruem, when she and fellow owner, the Rev. Donald Blanks, announced plans for the center last fall. ....

SC African American History Calendar: February Honoree - Gilda Cobb-Hunter | Stories


Gilda Cobb-Hunter is a native of Gifford, F.L., attending Florida A&M University for a bachelor’s in African-American History and Florida State University for a master’s in American History. She received an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters from the Medical University of South Carolina, the College of Charleston, and Francis Marion University. She received the David Wilkins Legislative Leadership Award from the Riley Institute at Furman University.
She became the first African American woman in Orangeburg County elected to be a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. Cobb-Hunter went on to be the first freshman appointed to and is the ranking member, 1st Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. She also is a member of the Joint Bond Review Committee. ....
