Over 100 people have been arrested in Gujarat, India, following a crackdown on spas, massage parlours, and hotels suspected of involvement in the flesh trade. The raids were carried out after the state s Minister of State for Home directed police officials to target premises thought to be operating illegal activities under the guise of legitimate businesses. A total of 105 individuals have been apprehended and 103 FIRs have been filed. The police have also initiated the process of revoking the licenses of 27 spa centers and hotels.
Rights activists have complained that the current economic crisis has forced many women to take up prostitution or work as therapists in spas.
