news. we just learned the so-called pillowcase rapist christopher hubbard is already getting death threats on social media. authorities now afraid of vigilante justice upon his release. kpix 5 s cate caugiran with the major push now to keep him behind bars. reporter: these women wrote thousands of letters signed petitions and protested, finally their voices will be heard after driving 350 miles from southern california. our concern is to stop this guy from coming to our town. reporter: wednesday morning, a santa clara county judge opened the floor to testimony from the public. all the women are in fear, the young girls are in fear. they are terrified. reporter: they are talking about 63-year-old christopher hubbard, dubbed the pillowcase rapist, hubbard admitted to sexually assaulting 40 women in the 1970s and 80s. he has been locked up since 1996. a judge decided to release hubbard to lake los angeles, a desert community in southern california, where a landlor
a san jose house party that turned violent. no one was hurt. he also was found in possession of illegal firearms and weapons clips. smith also pled no contest to a dui last year when he crashed his pickup into a tree in the evergreen area of san jose. he was also accused of swimming out his license plate in that incident to avoid detection. now, the district attorney s office insisted today that there was no special treatment, no plea bargain. the defendant, mr. smith, changed his plea on all counts so it wasn t a negotiated plea deal with the d.a. s office. he changed his plea and the sentencing will be determined by the corporate that s the difference between a plea bargain where you see charges dropped or an agreed sentence. here he merely changed his plea and the sentencing will be determined later. reporter: mr. smith could be sentenced anywhere from 0 days to 4 years and 4 months in county jail. he is due back here in san jose before that same judge on july 25th. at
