CHATTANOOGA - Nina Lee Gilchrist, 62, passed away at her home in Chattanooga, TN on April 24, 2021, surrounded by her family after a two-year battle with gall bladder cancer. She was born in Philippi WV on July 12, 1958. She was the beloved wife of Keith Brantley Gilchrist and the proud mother of two sons: Samuel and Trevor. Nina loved her family fiercely. Nina s parents Jacob Edward Keiffer and Margie Oleta Keiffer preceded her in death. She is survived by three big sisters Dianne Winter, Mary Arnett, and Nancy Stewart. She had several close friends she affectionately called Sistars . Nina was a graduate of Shinnston High School and attended Fairmont State University. She had a deep love for children and could be found on Sunday mornings teaching preschoolers or working in the nursery. She was the spark behind a Christ-centered school start-up. A lifelong gardener, she fought illness as she obtained her Master Gardener certification. Nina was supremely skilled at handling yarn. ....

Jacksonville's oldest Dairy Queen sells for $625,000 | Jax Daily Record | Jacksonville Daily Record


A Southside Dairy Queen, the oldest location in the city, changed hands May 3 for $625,000.
The store at 5812 University Blvd. was built in 1968, and Dairy Queen has operated there since. The Jacksonville Beach location was built in 1960, according to Duval County Property Appraiser records.
It was sold as an investment and remains operating.
Thomas J. Meeker sold the property to Mary Arnett, who bought it through New York-based KLM Properties FL LLC, according to a deed recorded with the Duval County Clerk of Courts on May 10. Records show Meeker has owned it since 1998.
Prime Realty CEO Tyler Saldutti and Associate Director Kayla Deguzman represented the seller. Prime Realty Associate Director Brent Dennis represented the buyer. ....

In 1960, Sen. John F. Kennedy didn’t carry Madison in the Democratic presidential primary or Wisconsin in the general election. But his candidacy still had a profound local impact.
His primary campaign against Sen. Hubert Humphrey created enough Badgerland bitterness to last for years, even damaging the federal judiciary. And his election utterly transformed local politics, and ended the effort to build Frank Lloyd Wright’s Monona Terrace auditorium and convention center.
Kennedy’s advisors didn’t want him entering the primary against the friendly liberal from neighboring Minnesota, who had two extra sectors of support. Some feared the Pope would unduly influence the Catholic Kennedy, while others who actually supported two-time nominee Adlai Stevenson were trying to block Kennedy from a first-ballot nomination at the national convention, hoping delegates would then draft the former Illinois Governor. ....
