ElectraMeccanica Celebrates Official Groundbreaking of U.S.


(NASDAQ: SOLO) ( ElectraMeccanica or the Company ), a designer and manufacturer of electric vehicles, commemorated the start of construction for its new U.S. Assembly and Engineering Technical Center with a groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday in Mesa, AZ.
In attendance were more than 50 invited guests, Company Board Members and local dignitaries, including Arizona Commerce Authority President Sandra Watson, who kicked the event off with a keynote address. Ms. Watson was joined at the podium by the President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council Chris Camacho, Mesa Mayor John Giles and ElectraMeccanica’s President and CEO Paul Rivera.
The 235,000 square foot facility is located on 18 acres of land adjacent to the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport. It will include an assembly and manufacturing plant, a research center, 22,000 square feet of office space and 19,000 square feet of lab space. SE Mesa growth alarms Eastmark residents


As bulldozer wheels begin churning on the slow-motion construction of State Route 24, commercial and residential developers are lining up near the new stretch of highway.
As Economic Development Director William Jabjiniak put it, “There’s a whole bunch of things going on in southeast Mesa.”
The proposed extension of SR24 runs smack through the Cadence at Gateway development, planned for 3,500-plus homes on 465 acres. The developer is asking for a change from commercial zoning to residential in a 20-acre section of the development near Ray and Crimson roads.
Some residents of Cadence at Gateway’s eastern neighbor, the massive Eastmark development on 3,200 acres, are furious over a new request for more homes. ....
