Another familiar figure has left us, Mr E. D Lane has gone to Europe but we have little doubt that we shall see him again when times are better. Mr Lane has lived for some 40 years in the East. He started work in this country in 1896 at Koyah on the Kinabatangan river as a tobacco planter.
In 1990, during the big flood, Mr Lane was sent to prospect for land and found what is now Sapong Estate. He was engaged in opening up this estate during the years 1901-03.
In this year, Mr Lane left the country and planted rubber in the F.M.S until 1926. In 1928 he returned to North Borneo as Manager Marudu Consolidated Estates. ....
