The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3052 new cases of the coronavirus across Illinois Saturday and 59 additional deaths. Statewide numbers are at 1,144,281 total cases and 19,585 deaths. The Wayne County Health Department reported a total of 1457 lab-confirmed positive cases of the coronavirus in the county as of Saturday morning. 48 people who were lab-confirmed positive cases have passed away, five were reported as hospitalized and 61 were isolating. The health department also reported 148 “probable” cases of COVID-19 with 11 isolating and being actively contact-traced. Health departments across southern Illinois reported over 40 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. Media reports indicated White County had ten new cases to bring its total to 1639 lab-confirmed positive cases and 24 deaths. Saline County reported five new cases to bring its totals to 2352 lab-confirmed positive cases and 43 deaths. ....
That means Jefferson County will soon be holding court in an actual courtroom. We hardly have any kind of in court proceedings take place. Jefferson County Circuit Clerk, Randy Pollard, says their courtrooms have been largely vacant since the start of the pandemic. Everything is pretty well done remotely. Court rooms are practically empty, so absolutely the volume in the courthouse is drastically reduced. Deputy Sheriff, Marty Keoughan, says that is set to change. Starting on February 9th, things will change. We re going to start back with jury trials. With that being said, we are still selecting a jury off site within a larger room, once the jury is selected, we ll come back to the courthouse, and conduct the jury trial in the courtroom, adds Pollard. ....
