Upper East Minister asked to resign after NPP’s historic defeat to NDC
Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are mounting pressure on the Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, to resign after the party suffered what they describe as a record defeat at the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region at the recent general elections.
All the three seats the NPP won in 2016 in the region were taken back by the NDC at the 2020 polls. The NDC won as many as 14 of the 15 parliamentary seats in the region this time, the NPP capturing only 1. Besides, the NPP lost the presidential election to the NDC by over 160,000 votes in the region.

Trouble hits NPP executive in Navrongo as supporters call for their resignation
A strong call has gone to the entire executive body of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency to resign their positions immediately.
The demand, which comes three days after Ghana went to the polls, is linked to what NPP supporters in the constituency have described as the worst humiliation the party has suffered at elections in the prominent constituency since the country gained independence from colonial control in 1957.
The NPP supporters, who go by the name “Kofi Adda Grassroots for Peace and Development (KAG-PED)” and are furious over the party’s defeat at the parliamentary election in the constituency, made the call at a news conference convened Thursday.
Supporters deny involvement of Kofi Adda in Tangoba’s defeat
Correspondence from Upper East Region:
Supporters of Ghana’s Aviation Minister and incumbent Member of Parliament for the Navrongo Central constituency, Joseph Kofi Adda, have denied any involvement of the legislator in the defeat of Tangoba Abayage, the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary (NPP) candidate, in the just-ended election.
The supporters maintained that Mr. Adda had no hand in whatsoever may have caused Ms. Abayage to lose the election to Sampson Tangombu Chiragia of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The supporters said if there was anyone to blame for the defeat and loss of the seat from the NPP, it would be Ms. Abayage and the people in her camp, including the Municipal Chief Executive for the area and the constituency chairman of the party, who were front liners of her campaign activities dating from the days before the Primaries.
