Catholic San Francisco April 6, 2021 The St. Vincent de Paul Society was founded in 1833 Paris with a mission to help the poor face-to-face. In no small coincidence, founder Frederic Ozanam, beatified in 1997 by St. John Paul II, began the society while Paris was in the grips of a cholera epidemic just as Vincentians in the 22 conferences of the San Francisco Council of SVDP are ministering today within the constraints of COVID-19. SVDP-SF announced the election of new president Joe Stark on March 26, 2021. Stark comes to the office as a Vincentian from St. Gabriel Parish SVDP conference and the conference at Laguna Honda Hospital. A 1972 graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, he holds an undergraduate degree as well as an MBA from San Francisco State University.
