Music fans and musicians have been going stir-crazy for a year. I last went to a concert March 6, 2020. And so last week’s announcement by the state that Phase Three, Step Two guidelines seemed to allow for live music performance at indoor venues, at half-capacity, and limited to 500 people or fewer, was greeted with jubilation. There are some live music shows this weekend, including in Quincy where Pete’s Grille hosts FM Station on Friday night and Joe Fitz and the Dented Cans on Saturday. “I’m so psyched to play again,” said Quincy’s Joe Fitzgerald, the singer/songwriter who fronts the Saturday night blues-rock band. “I think a lot of people didn’t realize how much they’d miss live music. I have a definite microphone addiction; my wife says if someone buries a microphone in an Iowa cornfield, I’ll go there, dig it up, and start singing.” ....

The full-length concert will be free to watch, but the band is asking fans for donations, to “help support us in our efforts to keep paying our employees,” said singer Ken Casey, a Milton native who now lives in Hingham. In addition to Casey, the band s current lineup is, Al Barr on vocals, Matt Kelly on drums, James Lynch on guitar, Tim Brennan on accordion, mandolin, bouzouki and tin whistle, and Jeff DaRosa on banjo, mandolin, bouzouki and keyboards. Kevin Rheault and Lee Roshner will add support on bass and bagpipes, respectively. The concert will feature hits such as “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” Tessie, “Rose Tattoo” and tracks from their new studio album, which will be released soon. For lifelong music fan Matt Smith, of Marshfield, his latest job made perfect sense. On February 2, Smith, who is already the managing director of the fabled Club Passim in Harvard Square, hosted his first edition of WMVY radio’s The Local Music Café. The show airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on the Martha’s Vineyard based station (88.7 FM, also carried on 96.5 FM in Newport) and is re-broadcast at 8 p.m. Sundays. The shows are also available on MVYRadio.org, where all previous shows are also archived. “I didn’t do anything specific for my debut, figuring I’d just ease into it,” said Smith from his Marshfield home this week. “For me, it’s an opportunity to support artists I already like and also to reach out and find new artists I might not be familiar with. I would expect we’ll have some of our Club Passim favorites and there’ll be a thread through the programs of people who’ve worked together on each other’s projects and the like. I’m looking a ....
