Doesn t cause gigantic impacts. some of it leeches out. it it is having impact but there s not massive impacts like we ve seen over the last 87 days. we ve seen a horrible disaster, coating of the marsh lands, killing dolphin, that portion of the spill is over. there will be long-term impacts. we don t know what they are. but i m predicting they will be relatively mild and that they will start decreasing in intensity. some long-term impacts will be found. stan, do you agree with that assessment? do we have enough information to know whether or not the disperse ents are dangerous? no, we don t have enough information on the dispersants. it s really a massive, uncontrolled experiment. i think the concern there are two concerns with the lingering oil. one is that if it s buried under sediments and the marsh grasses, you may have storms that stir up that toxic soup again and that oil re-enters the environment. ....
Incredibly resilient. it will return to normal. the bacteria are out there and they are helping. we are also helped with tropical weather that dispersed the residual oil and breaks it into smaller components. concentrated oil can t be degraded fast. dispersed oil can be. bonnie helped in that respect. stan, do you agree? do you believe that there s been bacteria that is eating the oil, that the oil s so dispersed that s the reason we can t see it? well, there s no doubt there s action by things like bacteria that can degrade the oil, but it s really way too soon to say where all of the oil has gone. who knows where it s going to pop up next. one of the things we re concerned about is that oil can get buried in sediment and work its way under marsh grasses where it may take a lot longer to degrade. it could linger for years. and following the extox spill 30 years late, there s still oil ....
