CARLSHEND, MI – Susanne “Cookie” Erickson, age 70, of Carlshend, entered eternal life Sunday, May 2, 2021, at home, in the loving care of her family.
Born August 31, 1950, in Benton, Illinois, a daughter of Charles and Naoma (Summers) West, Sue was raised in Benton, and later graduated from Gwinn High School. On December 8, 1969, Sue was united in marriage to Joseph Erickson, Sr. and together the couple established their home and began raising a family. Sue was a talented and creative cook and spent a lifetime in food service at various locations around Gwinn. Her longest service was with the Gwinn High School as head cook, from where she retired. Well known for her community involvement, she was very active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, serving as a leader and camp staff member at Camp Hiawatha for 25 years as head cook. In the community, Sue’s service usually involved preparing and serving food.
Mildred Ann ‘Millie’ Hanson
MARQUETTE, MI – Mildred Ann “Millie” Hanson, 82, of Marquette, passed away Sunday morning, November 22, 2020, after a courageous battle with several medical conditions at U.P. Health System – Marquette.
Millie was born on February 20, 1938, in Marquette, a daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Treves) Mayhew. She was a lifelong area resident, a graduate of John D. Pierce High School, and attended Northern Michigan University.
As a young mother, Millie made sure her sons and daughter took part in Junior Hockey and volunteered her time in support of team and tournament activities. She played in the first-ever all mothers hockey game as a member of the Hot Toddies team to raise funds for the program. She brought a “puck eating plant” to help her team.
