A historic 1920s jail facility is for sale but only the brave need apply.
The haunted Old Gilchrist County Jail, located in Trenton, Florida, is on the market. For $140,000, the 2,000 square foot property includes eight jail cells, eight restrooms and an attached jailer s house, which was added in 1965.
Arlene Hale, who has owned the property for 12 years, received the deed to the spooky land as a birthday gift from her husband. He bought it from a mutual friend of the couple for $30,000.
I was just interested in the architecture, Hale told The Gainesville Sun. I didn t even know my friend owned it until she told me about it at a yard sale. But when she told me that she was going to sell it, I told her I was already sold. ....

With overgrown vines and loquat trees blocking the building, it’s easy to miss the aging historic property at 313 NW Second St. in Trenton, though for many who enter it’s unforgettable.
The Old Gilchrist County Jail, in operation for 40 years during the 20th century, is up for sale. And in addition to visits from prospective buyers, ghosts of former inmates and others who died on the premises are said to haunt the property.
The eight-cell, eight-bath property comprises a little more than 2,000 square feet and also includes an attached jailer’s house, added in 1965. The asking price is $140,000.
Arlene Hale, who lives between Newberry and Trenton, has owned the property for about 12 years. ....

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A historic jail from the 1920s is for sale in Florida. Buyer bonus: It might even be haunted.
Although the property surrounding the Old Gilchrist County Jail, which opened in 1928 and operated for 40 years, is somewhat dilapidated, the interior is well preserved, with original cell doors, bunks and bath fixtures in place. There’s also running water, though the jail portion has no electricity.
The eight-cell, eight-bath property comprises a little more than 2,000 square feet and also includes an attached jailer’s house, added in 1965. The asking price is $140,000. ....

For decades, the old Gilchrist County Jail in Trenton, Florida, has attracted thrill-seekers looking to have a supernatural encounter. Now, as the
Orlando Sentinel reports, one lucky ghost enthusiast will be able to own the allegedly haunted location for roughly $140,000.
The defunct jail recently hit the real estate market for $139,990. For that asking price, buyers get eight bedrooms, eight baths, and a notorious history of ghost sightings. The old Gilchrist County Jail was constructed in 1928 and operated in North Central Florida until 1968. In 1966, a jailer s residence was built on the property, where it still stands today. Prior to that, the inmates spent many nights locked away without supervision from guards. ....
