It is very significant that the Union Home Ministry is conducting a high-level inquiry into allegations of foreign funds received by Markazul Ma arif, an NGO managed by Badruddin Ajmal and his family. The allegation is that Ajmal s NGO had received the foreign funds in gross violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010, which is a criminal offence. The Assam Police had only recently registered a case against Ajmal s NGO for violation of FCRA. The FCRA is a legislation to regulate the acceptance and utilization of foreign contribution or foreign hospitality by certain individuals or associations or companies. GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI: Markazul Ma’arif on Saturday refuted the report of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), which alleged that the NGO’s six childcare institutions in Assam and Manipur misused funds from various sources, including some from abroad, and has called for a probe into the status of 300-odd “missing” children.
However, the chief of the apex national child rights body stood by the commission’s report and demanded to know if the children in these six homes were placed there as per orders of the child welfare committees (CWC).
Assam MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has established these homes, one of which is alleged to have received funds from an international NGO linked to al-Qaida. ....

GUWAHATI: State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the Union Home Ministry is conducting a high-level inquiry into the allegations of foreign funds being received by Markazul Ma arif.
It is an NGO of the Badruddin Ajmal Group by violating the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010.
The Assam Police recently registered a case against the NGO under FCRA violation under the sections 120B and 124A of Indian Penal Code (IPC), and section 33A/B of FCRA for suspected terror link with offshore funding sources.
The FCRA is a legislation to regulate the acceptance and utilisation of foreign contribution or foreign hospitality by certain individuals or associations or companies. The Act also has provisions to prohibit the acceptance and utilisation of foreign contribution or foreign hospitality for any activities detrimental to the national interest. ....
