DC Man Vaccinated for COVID-19 After Getting on Pharmacy Waitlist for No-Shows

A healthy, 36-year-old Washington, D.C., resident says he was able to get vaccinated against COVID-19 this week by getting on a pharmacy waitlist used when people fail to show up to their vaccination appointments.
Mark Sussman said he got a vaccine Monday night after simply calling a Safeway pharmacy and asking if they had a waitlist for unused vaccines. Once the doses are thawed, they need to be used within hours.
I started thinking, ‘Well, I live four blocks from a Safeway. Should I call to see if they need people to come if they have extra vaccines at the end of the day? he recalled. ....

Cars hit buildings more often than you think
H Street’s cluster of cars hitting buildings may be notable, but H Street isn’t alone even being inside a building isn’t enough to guarantee you won’t be injured by a car. Streetsblog reported in February that drivers crash cars into buildings as much as 60 times per day on average in the US, killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands each year.
The Storefront Safety Council, an advocacy group working to limit vehicle-into-building collisions, has tracked more than 30 instances of cars crashing into businesses, government buildings, and bus stops in the region in 2020 alone. Other car-into-building collisions have damaged property and hurt pedestrians in the region just over the last few months. ....

A Car Drove Into the Atlas Performing Arts Center Last Night

The H Street location is currently Joy of Motion’s only studio. It previously operated spots in Friendship Heights and Bethesda, but had to close them because of “financial concerns and lost revenue due to Covid,” says Null. The group put out a call on Twitter for folks to donate funds to help the dance group and the arts center rebuild the space. ....
