Attorneys for nonprofit Friends of the Jocko and resident Jim Coefield argued in court that the Department of Environmental Quality s environmental assessment during the permitting process of the project s possible impacts to groundwater, wildlife and human health was woefully inadequate and fell far short of the agency s requirements under the Montana Environmental Policy Act.
During a special meeting of City Council on Feb. 22, council voted on an appeal of a 2023 Historic Preservation Commission decision regarding the Old Post Hospital development.
The councilors voted 7-4 to uphold a decision from the Missoula Historic Preservation Commission that denied a building permit to the Fort Missoula Commons.
Known as the Fort Missoula Commons, the proposal includes 16 new residential townhomes and two commercial buildings. The Missoula Historic Preservation Commission voted against the project in May.
