Honest, the notion of gun control is a misnomer. no one has proposed at any credible level or wasn t even the legislation that i saw, that had to do with actually taking away people s guns or any of the rhetoric you saw at the nra convention. had to do with background checks. which, by the way, the nra used to support. so i mean, the reality is, i don t think this is going to be an issue that democrats are going to be pushing. it may come up. obviously, i think the republicans are going to try to exploit it politically into states that they re talking about, which is kind of the red states, whether you are talking about arkansas or alaska. you have democrats who are in power, whether you re talking about senator mark pry oregon mark begich, and i don t think they re going to be weakened by the nra positions about them suggesting they re trying to take guns away. i think the constituents know them a lot better than that. i have to disagree with that. the facts are that michael bloombe ....
Saying they want action on things like the minimum wage. does he have to hope that the people feel that he s on their side and that there s momentum that helps him get back in the game? you just saw some of this in new york city, were there are democrats that believe that populism is the right way to go. rich versus poor, two americas, income inequality. can you sell that outside of new york? she s a democrat seeking reelection, mark pry i don t remember arkansas, we could go on and on and on. the politics of dividing the pie is easier than the real problem of making more pie, isn t it? it is. but the pie is automatically divided in an election year. you look at a country where we have maybe 40 to 50 and that number will be smaller by election day. what does it say that 30 or 40 ....
Presidential campaign. but i m not sure if it s going to work. i sort of agree with donny that this is a big, big, big bet on the american people s idea of the role of government. and it s potentially a huge disaster for the democrats. if the president does what howard is prescribing a big campaign the sequencing is tricky. at the same time he s contemplating the big campaign, you got senate democrats getting panicked. you ask mark pry or in arkansas, you ask mary landrieu in louisiana, these are all democrats who were elected in 2008, red states, states that mitt romney in some cases won overwhelmingly and they voted for obama care. they get one shot right now to distance themselves from obama care and distance themselves from that vote. the president is trying to make the case for obama care. what he s got to do in my view, what do i know. he can t allow that happen. ....
The 60 votes necessary to clear procedural hurdles in the democratically controlled senate. as ben jacobs writes it s, mark pry or may face the toughest re-election campaign of any incumbent senator in 2014. he s running against conservative rising star tom cotton in culturally conservative arkansas, a state that is becoming increasingly difficult for democrats. luke russert joins us from capitol hill. luke, as pointed out in those two examples alone, this is a risk but looks like it s moving forward and the president said he will sign it. reporter: it s moving forward, tamron. there s a cloture vote scheduled in the united states senate, that s a procedural vote of which they now have 60 saying they move it forward and final vote sometime this week. however, after this announcement came out from mr. heller that this would go to cloture this ....
Economy is on so much better ground than it was exactly four years ago or right after that financial collapse. but a lot of those other numbers what it shows the median household income, americans who are living below the poverty line and see the results, the great recession that are still with us. almost lagging indicators. that cannot be ignored. you have what we have always said or the numbers have shown, wall street doing well and the people at home suffering. especially those who are the poorest in this nation. and that i believe is a part of what we saw with the outrage against wall street and we saw the protests in the 99% movement that we witnessed there, mark. and these numbers show that that is a real concern with numbers to back it up. there s no doubt that one part of this economy is recovered a whole lot quicker than a lot of other americans right now but, tamron, i think the bigger story and this ....
