A day after being sworn in, President Joe Biden is rolling out a national strategy to fight COVID-19, reopen the nation’s schools and restart the U.S. economy. His plan calls for an expansion of coronavirus testing, accelerated vaccine distribution and new action to prepare for future biological threats. It’s well-known a substantial number of Americans are reluctant or unwilling to receive COVID-19 vaccine.
But it came as a surprise that a substantial number of health care workers are declining it.
Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine had no figures, but acknowledged this week some health care workers have declined to sign up for the vaccine, and noted some work in nursing homes, where the COVID-19 toll has been especially high. ....

The COVID-19 vaccine is viewed by many as a turning point in the pandemic and on Friday, frontline hospital workers in the Susquehanna Valley took the first steps in getting this new protection against coronavirus.There was applause at the hospital after Mark Misczenski received his first dose of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine. Misczenski says, I feel good, no soreness yet. He is a nurse in the emergency department of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Pinnacle in Harrisburg, a facility that has seen many COVID-19 cases. I m hoping one day everyone can get the vaccine so one day I can come to work and don t have to wear a mask. Dr. John Goldman with UPMC says getting vaccinated is critical for nurses, doctors and other staff. Having this vaccine will allow us to protect all of the people who work here and remove one more worry from people that are currently doing a very difficult job, said Dr. Goldman. ....
