He grew up on a bulb farm in the Netherlands, and now he says it’s in his blood. His grandfather’s kids worked for him, then Mark’s dad worked for his grandfather before visiting an aunt in the United States and ultimately ending up in Castle Hayne, North Carolina. In 2004, Hommes and his parter Edwin van de Bovenkamp bought the farm and have been expanding it since. Current co-owner of Castle Hayne Farms, Mark always knew he would become a commercial-flower grower, learning the trade from his father, but what he didn’t realize is the amount of rich history both his farmland and his family legacy would carry in Castle Hayne, North Carolina.
