Green Party win second seat on Colchester Council


The Greens’ success in Colchester is set to be mirrored across the country with the party making gains in other areas like Newcastle.
Mr Goacher said the party was a “rising force” in Colchester politics as well as across the country.
He said: “We haven’t been able to canvas for chunks of the lockdown, it has only been since the rules were relaxed.
“It has been difficult because we have not been speaking to residents face to face as we normally would do through the year.
“It has been difficult to gauge what has been happened in terms of the national political landscape too. ....

Outrage at attack on woman running near Castle Park


A WOMAN has issued a stark warning to the public after being attacked by a group on men whilst running on her own near Castle Park.
The victim, Cait Smith, was assaulted while out near the lower section of the Colchester park on Tuesday evening.
After the assault she took to Facebook and posted a series of pictures of her injuries, issuing a warning to others who walk alone in the area.
Her post has been shared more than 3,000 times.
It said: “Colchester people walking alone at night round the bottom of Castle Park area please be very aware.
“Late last night I was attacked by some men when I went on my run. ....

A female runner has spoken of her shock and issued a warning to other women after being attacked while running through an Essex park in earlier this week.
Cait Smith, 23, was running in Castle Park in Colchester at around 10pm on the evening of Tuesday May 4th when she was attacked from behind by three men who ‘smashed’ her head into the ground.
The attacked left her with a swollen face, black eye and cuts and bruises on her arms. ....

The Conservative Group is hoping to take control of the council from the coalition.
To do so the group need to secure an additional five seats.
The Tories have set out ten immediate pledges which they are promising to enact if the win control of the council.
The first is to attempt to stop Alumno’s proposed students flats development off Queen Street and find an alternative plan for the area.
Any plans to build on Shrub End sports grounds would be stopped.
The group will commit £50,000 to explore “alternative options” for Middlewick, where 1,000 homes are set to be built. ....
