Yale School of Environment Scientists Emphasize Importance of Forest Management in Reaching Net Zero Emission Goals

Forests play a key role in mitigating climate change by removing and storing carbon dioxide, but they are facing increasing challenges. In the new Department of Energy report “Roads to Removal,” a team of YSE scientists map out a plan to reach critical climate goals by increasing the total forested area in the U.S., increasing the rate at which forests remove CO2 from the atmosphere, and increasing durability of forest carbon storage.

UNH food drive generates more than 12,500 meals for the hungry

More than 12,500 meals will be available to people in need thanks to a recent drive by the University of New Hampshire’s College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. Dean Anthony Davis came to UNH in September from Oregon State University, where a food drive was conducted each February. “I knew we would have something here. I didn’t expect it would be something we’d launch on my second month on the job, but you can’t adjust when the demand is out there,” Davis said. According to statistics published by the New Hampshire Food Bank, since the spread of COVID-19, one in seven people in the state is “food insecure,” meaning they do not know when or where their next meal will come from.

UNH College of Life Science and Agriculture donates thousands of meals to food pantries

Portsmouth Herald DURHAM – A University of New Hampshire College of Life Sciences and Agriculture food drive recently generated more than 12,500 meals at area food pantries after the college “came together while apart” to help reduce food insecurity. The effort is part of the college’s commitment to put belief into action by supporting the greater New Hampshire community, especially during this unprecedented time that has seen such grave economic impacts due to COVID-19.   “As a college that seeks to advance the sustainability of communities and ecosystems, we study and inform healthy production of food and the nutritional needs of those across New Hampshire. It is important to us in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture that we find a way to support those across the state who are unsure of where their next meal comes from. I’m truly inspired by the giving nature of our college community and look forward to growing the impact next year!” said Anthony S. Davis
