'Safer Streets' funding sees alleygates in North Birkenhead


The area to be covered by Wirral Safer Streets initiative
ALLEYGATES, CCTV cameras and new streetlights have been installed in North Birkenhead in a project aimed at tackling crime in the area.
Launched in October , the Safer Streets crime reduction programme was set up to improve safety and security after consultation with local residents showed there were concerns about anti-social behaviour.
A partnership of Wirral Council, Merseyside Police, the Police & Crime Commissioner and North Birkenhead Development Trust successfully bid to the Home Office for funds that were used to reduce neighbourhood crime - offences that blight communities and cause misery to victims. ....

Recovery fund helping Wirral community groups to reopen

More than 70 community groups from across Wirral are to receive funding to help them re-open their buildings and safely welcome back members and customers.
Almost £250,000 has been awarded to the groups from Wirral Council’s ‘Social Sector Setting Road to Recovery Fund’, which is part of the authority’s Covid Winter Grant Fund from the Department for Work and Pensions.
A wide range of community buildings will benefit from the awards - including sports clubs, church halls, guides and scout huts, community centres and play groups - where the funding will be used towards a range of safety measures including ventilation improvements, deep-cleaning and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). ....
