Alaska Grizzly - AG INFORMATION NETWORK OF THE WEST

Mark Albin’s brother in law found a trip to Alaska for brown bear and booked. . He flew up to Kenai, Alaska, met their guide and spent 10 days hunting for bear. Mark saw a 9 foot, 900 pound brown bear he wanted. The bear was in the river but moved behind some alder brush. Mark sighted in directly through the brush but his guide called him off because he thought the bear had moved. Mark said it looked like a Volkswagen sitting in the river and was behind the brush, but he took the guide’s instructions and didn’t shoot. The guide felt very badly about the whole incident and said that he would take Mark out in the future for no charge. Mark picks up the story: “When I went back up there we packed for 2 days and flew off to this little lake. We could hear and see bears across this lake, growling, you could hear them splashing and fishing. I will cut the next morning and it was beautiful. My guide, Mark, and his dad, who is also a guide, came along with us. We were sitting outside ....

South Bend's Art 4 'meet(s) the moment' with online production of timely 'Ragtime' | Arts


Based on the 1975 E.L. Doctorow novel of the same name, the 1996 musical “Ragtime” takes place in and around New York City during the first two decades or so of the 20th century.
And yet so many of the issues it explores — women’s rights, racial justice, immigration and labor rights — remain potent, divisive concerns in 2021.
Which is why Art 4 decided to produce “Ragtime” now as a virtual work while live performances remain problematic and controversial more than a year into the coronavirus pandemic.
“COVID-19 was like this microscope that really highlighted a lot of existing issues that we face as Americans, some more than others,” Art 4 Artistic Director Mark Albin says. “We wanted to meet the moment. … It’s really a tragedy that we haven’t been able to progress further as a society and that we’re continuing to have exhausting conversations.” ....
