You may know that hillwoods founder, Marjorie Merriweather post, began her russian collection while she was posted to soviet era moscow in 19371938. Over the next 30 years, she was dedicated to building the most comprehensive collection of russian imperial art outside of russia. She realized, as the collection grew, that her personal passion could inspire and educate the public and made plans for hillwood to become a museum.
