A year after wildfires swept through parts of Nova Scotia, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake, the province is increasing the fine for violating daily burn restrictions for the duration of the season.
Pelmorex received an administrative licence renewal Aug. 8 for its system publicly known as Alert Ready by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), with no public consultation.
A timeline of the first few hours of the wildfire, based on information from the municipality, the provincial Emergency Management Office and Nova Scotia RCMP, shows the first emergency alert came more than 1.5 hours after police began evacuations.
