After Years Of Waiting, Pittsfield's Westside Riverway Park Opens Sunday

The story of the Westside Riverway Park begins around 14 years ago.
“In about 2007, the Parks Department and the Office of Community Development started visioning a Westside Riverway, which would be a larger system connecting the parklands throughout the Westside neighborhood with the natural resources of the West Branch of the Housatonic, said Tessa Kelly, one of the architects behind the park, which sits at the intersection of Dewey Avenue and Bradford Street in Pittsfield. “This is sort of the biggest built initiative that came out of that plan. So it started in 2007. And it s opening up this Sunday to the public.” ....

Pittsfield Officials Pick Taconic Grad for Empty School Committee Seat

Slaughter is the Central Massachusetts regional director for U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and as a Pittsfield native has strong relationships with several children, families, elected officials, and community leaders in the city.
I am a Black educated woman who is a confident, passionate, determined, organized leader and team player, she wrote in her letter of interest. Joining the Pittsfield School Committee will allow me to continue to serve and engage our students in our community.
Also indicating interest was Karen Kaveney-Murray, who has worked in Pittsfield Public Schools as a translator, and Randy Farmer, who feels strongly about ensuring success for all students by implementing policies that focus on student achievement. PITTSFIELD â Four people are interested in filling a School Committee vacancy due to the abrupt departure of Dennis Powell, whose resignation letter was deeply critical of the committee.
They include two candidates who pulled papers to run for School Committee in this fallâs municipal elections, Karen Reis Kaveney-Murray and Kate Lauzon. Also putting their names in are former School Committee member Kathleen Amuso, and Nyanna Slaughter, the central Massachusetts regional director for Sen. Elizabeth Warren. ....
