Lubbock community news in brief Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Slaton Lions Club hosting burger fundraiser The Slaton Lions Club is hosting a hamburger fundraiser from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph s parking lot. Burgers will be served from the Chamber of Commerce food trailer in a drive-through and pick up format. Funds raised through this event will benefit local school scholarships. Burgers and cost are: $6 for a hamburger; $7 for a cheeseburger; $8 for a Lion Burger; $9 for a Lion Cheeseburger; and add $2 for a drink and chips. Lubbock community news in brief Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Beans and Cornbread luncheon set for Friday Hospice of Lubbock’s is hosting its annual Mayors Beans and Cornbread fundraiser luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday as a drive-thru event at the newly remodeled YWCA of Lubbock at 66th Street and University Avenue. The Mayors’ Beans & Cornbread Luncheon is Hospice of Lubbock’s opportunity to raise funds to provide free hospice care to the unfunded and underfunded across the region. Each guest will receive a full plate of beans and cornbread, along with all the fixings for $10. Guests can enter the YWCA parking lot on the south side of the building off of 66th Street. ....
