Gov. Ducey signs bill allowing community colleges to offer 4-year degrees

PHOENIX - Governor Doug Ducey on Tuesday signed a bill allowing
colleges to offer four-year degrees.
Senate Bill 1453 aligns Arizona with 23 other states that allow community colleges to offer four-year degrees in limited circumstances, Ducey s office said in a news release on May 4.
Under the new law, colleges offering the degrees must approve programs based on specific criteria, including:
Workforce need
Avoiding duplicate programs
It will take effect this fall and requires detailed internal and external processes, including becoming nationally accredited. ....

PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey has signed into law a bill, SB1453, allowing community colleges to offer limited four-year college degrees.
The governor’s signature is the climax of years of efforts by advocates who worked to find alternatives to what critics argue is the expense for residents to get four-year degrees at Arizona’s three universities.
“We think about it all the time and how much it’s going to cost by the time they re of age,” said Christa Jones. ....

Bucks County Community College names Felicia Ganther as next president

Felicia Ganther has been selected as the next president of Bucks County Community College, becoming the first Black woman to lead the public institution and bringing some 25 years of education and a law degree to the job.
Ganther s three-year contract begins July 1.
Ganther will replace retiring president Stephanie Shanblatt, and will work with her on the transition over the next few months. She will become the fifth president in the college’s 57-year history.
The college currently has about 7,000 students enrolled and an annual budget of more than $83 million.  ....
