The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) received its first community donation to help fund its work on sexual violence prevention in the community. The GFWC Rhinelander Woman’s Club gave $1,000 to the OCHD in support of those programs.

'Coaching Boys to Men' program looks to prevent sexual violence

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WAOW) While spring student athletes at Rhinelander High School prepare for their season, they ll also be part of a new 12 week program that won t only teach them about healthy relationship skills but how to also cultivate mutual respect.
Called Coaching Boys into Men, the program is between the school and the Oneida County Health Department.
Coaching Boys into Men is just step one, it s the first thing that we re setting out to do here and so often in public health and primary prevention here we start with youth, said Maria Otterholt, Community Health Specialist with the Oneida County Health Department. ....

Rhinelander High School is 'Coaching Boys Into Men'

The Oneida County Health Department and Rhinelander High School are collaborating to instate a new program in the school’s athletic department.
It’s called Coaching Boys Into Men, and it has been implemented in schools around the country to teach male athletes about abusive behaviors and when to intervene.
“[The boys] are going to be going through their normal sports practice but their coach is going to be having conversations about respect and integrity, what that means for a young man and how they can really stand up and make a difference in their community,” Maria Otterholt, the program’s lead, said. ....
