PORT RICHEY, FL The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil complaint to prevent the owners of a Port Richey health clinic and a Hudson pharmacy from illegally prescribing and filling opioid prescriptions.
In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida Friday, the DOJ accused Dr. Tobias Bacaner, Theodore Ferguson II and Timothy Ferguson of using Paragon Community Healthcare Inc. at 6131 U.S. 19, Port Richey, to illegally give out prescriptions for opioids, and Cobalt Pharmacy Inc., 7135 State Road 52, Hudson, for illegally filling them. ....

'Profit From Addiction': DOJ Files Lawsuit Against Doctor For Writing Illicit Prescriptions At 'Cash-Only Pain Clinic'

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Friday that the U.S. filed a civil complaint seeking to permanently enjoin the owners of a Tampa, Florida, clinic and pharmacy for illegally selling opioids to at-risk patients.
Dr. Tobias Bacaner, a licensed medical doctor, allegedly wrote illicit prescriptions for patients who had shown signs of addiction and drug misuse, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Along with business partners Theodore and Timothy Ferguson, Bacaner allegedly distributed opioids such as oxycodone from the cash-only Paragon Clinic, while also filling “medically illegitimate” prescriptions at the jointly owned Cobalt Pharmacy, according to court documents. ....

Washington, DC - A Florida businesswoman has agreed to resolve criminal charges and civil claims arising out of false claims to the United States for braces and other durable medical equipment (DME), the Justice Department announced Thursday. 
Kelly Wolfe, of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and filing a false tax return. She faces a maximum penalty of 13 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set. Wolfe’s company, Regency Inc. (Regency), has also agreed to a civil resolution. ....

Local businesswoman pleads guilty to criminal healthcare and tax fraud charges and agrees to $20.3 million civil settlement


Tampa, FL   Kelly Wolfe (Indian Rocks Beach) has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and filing a false tax return. She faces a maximum penalty of 13 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
In addition to her criminal charges, Wolfe and her company, Regency, Inc. ( Regency ) have agreed to pay up to $20,332,516, to resolve allegations that Wolfe and Regency violated the False Claims Act in a number of ways, including falsifying documentation in order to fraudulently establish durable medical equipment ( DME ) corporations to bill for medically unnecessary DME equipment, and engaging in improper marketing practices that violate the Anti-Kickback Statute. The civil settlement amount is based on Wolfe and Regency s ability to pay. ....

Washington, DC - The Department of Justice Wednesday announced a coordinated international law enforcement action to disrupt a sophisticated form of ransomware known as NetWalker.
NetWalker ransomware has impacted numerous victims, including companies, municipalities, hospitals, law enforcement, emergency services, school districts, colleges, and universities. Attacks have specifically targeted the healthcare sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking advantage of the global crisis to extort victims.
“We are striking back against the growing threat of ransomware by not only bringing criminal charges against the responsible actors, but also disrupting criminal online infrastructure and, wherever possible, recovering ransom payments extorted from victims,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L.
